How to use the currency converter

Enter an amount, select the source and target currencies from over 150 world currencies (with popular codes such as USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, VND, KRW, SGD, AUD, CAD, INR, and THB pinned at the top), or click ⇄ to swap the pair. Both the converted total and the unit exchange rate in each direction are shown immediately.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Your browser downloads daily reference rates from a public exchange-rate service (ExchangeRate-API, or the European Central Bank via Frankfurter as a backup) and caches them in local storage for 12 hours. The amounts you enter are calculated on your device and are never sent anywhere. If you go offline, the last downloaded rates continue to work automatically.

Mid-market rates vs. bank and card rates

Reference rates shown here are mid-market (interbank) rates—the midpoint between wholesale buy and sell prices on global currency markets. Banks, credit cards, wire services, and airport currency desks add their own spread and transaction fees, so the retail rate you receive when exchanging money or paying abroad will differ slightly.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from and how often do they update?
Your browser fetches daily mid-market reference rates directly from public exchange-rate services (ExchangeRate-API, with the European Central Bank via Frankfurter as a fallback) and caches them locally for 12 hours.
Why does my bank or credit card charge a different exchange rate?
This converter displays the mid-market (interbank) rate—the midpoint between wholesale buy and sell rates on global currency markets. Retail banks, card networks, and airport kiosks add a markup (spread) or foreign transaction fee on top of the mid-market rate.
Does the currency converter work offline, and are my amounts private?
Yes. Once rates have been loaded in your browser, they are saved in localStorage so you can convert currencies even without an internet connection. The amounts you type are calculated locally and are never sent to any server.
